Census Research Methodology

At the last forum about the DESC project proposed for Delridge, Rick Hooper of the Office of Housing indicated that this project complies with the siting policy requirements, but my intuitive perception of the surrounding neighborhood has been that it suffers from significant economic stress, so I decided to look at census data.

The DESC proposed project is located at the red dot in the northeast corner of the census tract 107

Census data for Tract 107 is drawn from the 2005-2009 American Communities Survey as prepared by the US Census Bureau. It should be noted that these numbers are estimates, based on a sample survey, but they are to my knowledge the best and latest census data available that includes economic information. You can do your own data mining at the website — I used the “Detailed Tables” link to compile the results.

Note that the Seattle Office of Housing policies use census block group boundaries when determining whether a project meets the siting policies requirements.
