I have seen some questions about the source of the information in this blog entry and the neighbor mentioned has given permission to post this. Following is an email from the Interim Program Manager for the Housing Choice Voucher Program, administered by the Seattle Housing Authority. This is the source of the information about the number of portable vouchers in the census tract.

Subject: RE: Voucher Program – Data InquiryThank you Jodi,
I did receive your voicemail but haven’t had time in my day to call you back. I appreciate your help.
My census tract is: 107.01
Do you keep any other demographic information for my census tract in relation to these portable vouchers, such as household income levels? Is it possible to find out the number of permanent subsidized units there are in this tract as well?
Thank you again.
Warmly,
Tanya

I have left you a voice mail regarding this also. The data is not something that you can get yourself, but I can help. If you know your census tract that would be the easiest way to get the information you need. If you don’t know your census tract you can enter your address here:
http://factfinder2.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/searchresults.xhtml?ref=addr&refresh=t
Once I get that from you I can look up the information that you need.

Subject: Vocher Program – Data InquiryGood Afternoon Jodi,
I am doing some research on low-income housing in my neighborhood and am interested to learn about the number of portable housing vouchers being used. I left you a voicemail yesterday but thought I would reach out to you by email.
I found the following table online that shows the number of portable vouchers in my zip code. Is it possible for me to drill down on that number to look at my neighborhood and/or my census block? Is this something I can do on my own (is this information public) or something I can ask for assistance with?

Thank you for your help.
